PAPERS & PRESENTATIONS
Names highlighted in red are our students, faculty, research associates and post-docs.
Presentations
• A patent was filed by Daniel Croce , PhD ‘20, and Dr. Luis Zerpa for an invention related to gas lift in
horizontal unconventional wells. They are presenting results from the evaluation of this technology in
the 2020 SPE Artificial Lift Conference and Exhibition (ALCE) and the SPE Annual Technical Conference
and Exhibition (ATCE).
• Dr. Zerpa was invited to give a webinar on the research related to gas hydrates in flow assurance at
the graduate seminar in the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at
the University of Texas at Austin.
• Luai Alhamad presented “A Review Of Organic Acids Roles In Acidizing Operations For Carbonate And
Sandstone Formations” (SPE 199291) and “Minimizing Calcium Lactate Precipitation Via The Addition
Of Gluconate Ions For Matrix Acidizing With Lactic Acid” (SPE 199306) at the SPE International
Conference and Exhibition on Formation Damage Control at Lafayette (19 - 21 Feb).
Dr. Yu-Shu Wu At KFUPM December 2019.
• Dr. Zerpa was the keynote speaker at the closing session of the Gordon Research Conference on
Natural Gas Hydrate Systems held at Galveston, TX, in February 2020.
• Dr. Philip Winterfeld contributed “An Overview of our Coupled Thermal-Hydrological-Mechanical Simulator for Porous and Fractured
Media” to the 54th US Rock Mechanics / Geomechanics Symposium, Golden, CO.
• Dr. Hossein Kazemi chaired a session on Gas Injection EOR in the SPE forum on Late-life Unconventional Reservoirs, November 2019,
Phoenix, AZ.
• Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed represented the UREP consortium as he presented his paper “Developing Methodology for DFIT Design
and Pressure Interpretation by Coupled Reservoir Geomechanics Flow Simulation” Co-authored with T. Thaker and E. Ozkan at the SPE
Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference and Exhibition, February 2020, Woodlands, Texas.
